Richard has been an Art teacher for the past 14 years after originally training to degree level in Painting and Drawing. He has now taken the step to pursue painting as a permanent career choice.
His inspiration comes directly and indirectly from landscape and the shapes, lines, textures and patterns within it. The division of landscape is broken down into sections, which are then areas to explore through paint, varnishes and mixed media. He is interested in developing layering techniques in his work and thus creating a richness and depth to the paintings. Imagery in the work can delve into the abstract at times, and inspired by the smallest of things such as lichen and grasses.
