Below is a list of workshops coming to Dotty Gallery soon!  

More workshops will be added as they are arranged - if you would like to be informed of all new workshops, let Lesley know via the Contact Page. If you have ideas of workshops that you would like to see included, please let Lesley know, again via the contact page or telephone direct.

Numbers for each workshop are kept small, so booking is essential. These workshops can also be purchased as gifts. 

Eco-printed Lampshades (Spaces)

Eco-printed Lampshades

With Rachel Grevatte   £60

Print a colourful, bold or abstract design on paper using locally sourced fruits and vegetables. Turn you print into a professionally rolled edge drum lampshade.

All materials are provided, including lampshade kits, printing materials, tools, paper and produce from Rachel's allotment, but you're welcome to bring along your own. Extra lampshade kits will be available to buy on the day.

The workshop will run 10 - 4pm.

 

Tomte/Christmas Gnome Workshop

Tomte are mythological creaturesfrom Nordic folklore typically assocaited with the winter solstice and the Christmas season, traditionally they are though to protect the hom.

In this workshop you will make a pair of Tomte suitable for hanging on your tree or free standing that we will make together step by step. Colour and design variants will be down to your own creative interpretation, but I will bring with me plenty of examples and inspiration.

Free Machine Embroidery (Full)

Free Machine Embroidery

With Linda Harding    £35

You will learn the addictive art of free machine embroidery at this experimental workshop. Layer a wide selection of recycled fabric scraps, sari borders, yarns, silk flowers and fibres to create your design, then top with translucent shot organza and free machine through the layers to create a stunning and colourful textile art quilt. The workshop is suitable for beginners and improvers.

 

You can bring along your own machine or there will be machines here to use. The workshop runs from 10 - 1pm, costs £35 and is limited to six people.

Drawing with Thread (Spaces)

Learn to draw with your sewing machine - use a simple line drawing to follow with free machine embroidery on fine Egyptian cotton, then paint in with inktense pencils and dye crayons to create beautiful thread pictures. Bring along a line drawing, though Linda will bring a selection too - (you can trace onto fabric). Use your own sewing machine or one of Linda's.

The session begins at 2pm and finishes at 5pm, costs £35 and includes all materials.

Christmas Wreaths (rag rug technique) (spaces)

Wreaths (Rag Rug Technique)

Learn the traditional skill of rag rugging and make a beautiful Christmas wreath using upcycled fabrics. 

You will use a 'bodger' to create a stunning wreath, with a lovely selection of pure wool fabrics to choose from. Make it your own with ribbons, cones, baubles, bells, buttons and so much more! No experience needed. Your wreath is 'eco friendly' and can be  used year after year. Have fun, learn a new skill and create a wreath to be proud of. Adorn your door with a unique festive work of art.

Explore the ancient craft of basketmaking for a day creating beautiful, useful baskets or willow structures for the home and garden. Using coloured willows, dogwoods and materials gathered from the hedgerow, you can choose what you make on the day. Make a variety of baskets, obelisks or bird sculptures, willow spheres to hang in trees - all perfect for lighting up at Christmas!  The day will run 10.00 - 4.30 and cost £55

Rag Rug Cushions (Spaces)

Learn the traditional craft of rag rugging and make a beautiful cushion for your home. You will use 'upcycled' fabrics including wool, denim, cotton and velvet. (However, if you have a particular fabric you'd like to use, just bring it along).

You will learn how to use a 'bodger'!

All materials and tools will be provided. No experience is needed to create the cushion which will be completed during the workshop. Have fun, learn a new skill and take away a cushion to adorn your home ... or if you can bear to give it away, someone else's!

Needle Felted Robins for the Tree (spaces)

With Alison Linnell   £40   We are running two Sessions: 10.00 - 12.30 and 1 - 3.30pm

Many of you will have seen these lovely little felted robins for sale in Dotty at Christmas time - they are always a favourite. Well now you can learn how to make simple needle felted robin tree decorations in these 2.5 hour workshops with tutor Alison Linnell. You will make up to three robins in the session and as the cost of the needle felting equipment (robin cutter, 2 needles in a case, foam pad and spare wool) is included in the charge, you will be able to make more at home!

Porcelain Christmas Decorations Workshop (half day) (Full)

Porcelain Christmas Decorations

With Sara Budzik   £40 10 - 1pm

Spend a festive few hours creatiing your own Christmas decorations under the guidance of Sara, a ceramic artist based at East Leake, Nottinghamshire.

A perfect personal gift or a keepsake for yourself! You will be able to add colour with slip and underglaze to finish off your work. No experience is necessary as Sara will demonstrate the techniques and guide you through the process. After the workshop, Sara will fire and glaze your work and return it to Dotty Gallery ready to collect approximately 2 - 3 weeks later.
